I was born in Philadelphia and lived in Cherry Hill, N.J., for one year until we moved to Maryland (Fort Washington in Prince Georges County) when dad took a position as an engineer with the Department of Defense. I have lived the rest of my life in Maryland (PG, Howard or Anne Arundel counties) - with the exception of two school years at college in York, Pennsylvania, and six months in Atlanta right after I graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park.
I grew up only a few miles from the upper Potomac River (Fort Washington & Mount Vernon area) and a short drive from the Chesapeake – we often trailered to Deale or Solomons Island. We usually had a small runabout or day sailor, I’ll always remember dad teaching me to sail.
Probably my favorite memory of boating when I was growing up was when I was about 10, we rented a cabin cruiser for a week of cruising on the bay. Decades later I still remember that week, especially fishing under the bay bridge (one span back then), overnighting in front of crab shedding tables in Rock Hall and transiting the C & D Canal.
My favorite boating trip has to be a trip down the ICW years ago helping a friend move a 50 foot sailboat from Maryland to Florida.
I have approximately 35 years of boating experience – mostly power. I’ve owned a succession of boats from a Chaparral cuddy cabin through a series of Sea Ray express cruisers. I bought and rebuilt a small Mako skiff. That project afforded me hands-on experience with epoxy, painting and sanding – lots of sanding. It did cause me to have a renewed sense of appreciation for those craftsmen that can perform undetectable fiberglass repairs and painting or varnish work without runs, drips or orange peel.
I am passionate about anything boating related – just ask my wife about the decades of old Boating magazines still tucked away in the basement.
We own a Sea Ray express cruiser and a couple of kayaks. We keep our boat at the community marina on Beard’s Creek – off the South River a few minutes from Hawk’s Yachts office.
While I am new to the brokerage industry, the part I like the most, so far, is meeting people and using the tools and programs only available to brokers to help people find their perfect boat.
I am married to my wonderful wife – Jody. Two great children. One runs his own business and lives on his boat in Edgewater and the other is an attorney in Baltimore. Blessed with five grandchildren. At last count our house has three dogs (all rescues), two birds and one cat.
I am a lifelong boater, with decades of experience and memories of the Chesapeake Bay. I retired from the Department of Justice after a career chasing international fugitives. I have negotiated resolutions to thousands of cases and multiple international treaties. However, my interest and passion for boating is such that, even when I was the most experienced extradition lawyer in the DoJ, I was as knowledgeable about boats and boating, and as comfortable providing advice about anything boating related, as I was about international criminal matters. Let me put the same dedication and tenacity I used to return hundreds of fugitives to use for you by finding your “perfect” boat or by finding a buyer for your boat.
